When To Let Go

Gandhi spinning
As long as you derive inner help and comfort from anything, you should keep it.  If you were to give it up in a mood of self-sacrifice or out of a stern sense of duty, you would continue to want it back, and that unsatisfied want would make trouble for you.  Only give up a thing when you want some other condition so much that the thing no longer has any attraction for you, or when it seems to interfere with that which is more greatly desired.

  1. I’ve been increasingly aware that many of my possessions are just stuff. I keep them because they are mine. Now I know that I don’t have to keep them, and it is not earning me any brownie points to keep dusting them.

    1. I have no aversion to dusting myself, but even I wouldn’t do any more of it than strictly necessary!
It’s wonderfully freeing to look at a room (or part of one, in my case) and see nothing but favourites. But it must be admitted that it is hard to get rid of the also-rans.
