Grey Hair and Jealousy

I do not have grey hair – nor white, nor even silver. And I am jealous of those who do. These ladies, for example.

My About page claims that I have advanced to the Silver Thread level of Little Old Ladyhood, but alas! I must confess that I have not seen those few silver threads in some time. They may still be there; they may not. Hard to tell unless you go hunting for them, and there are approximately 8,694 things on my to do list which are of higher priority.

People of European ancestry apparently go grey earlier on average than the rest of the world, but here I am in my early 30s and all my European ancestors do not seem to be helping. I’ve heard that “grey hair is hereditary – you get it from your children”, but that seems like rather a lot of  trouble to go to for a silvery crown of glory.

What’s your posish on grey hair? Any non-reproductive suggestions on how to advance its progress?

  1. I believe in a woman’s right to choose – her image, including her hair colour.

As long as I can afford my touchups, I choose to keep the colour that I have been choosing for the last 20+ years. There is a fashion for grey among younger people – that is their choice! I wouldn’t have done that in my 20s because I liked my own hair colour. It was always my best feature. I daresay the same people will choose dark or red or brown hair in the future.

Additionally, for professional reasons I keep my hair colour – I am a sometime actor and I want to play more than little old ladies!

    1. I wouldn’t fancy dyeing my hair grey at all.
Perhaps you have another Best Feature just waiting for its moment to shine – when you’re ready.

  2. I can recommend living through kitchen renovations for premature aging, or – thankfully not my personal experience – earthquakes and ensuing insurance battles. Not really recommending any of the above!
