Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain

What’s your favourite colour? Or, to look at it another way, if you were to be represented by a colour, what would it be?

Myself, I am a sort of dark rusty reddish brown. Plain without being drab, warm without being fiery, simple without being boring. The colour of book-bindings, bloodstains and mahogany furniture – which, now I think about it, makes me sound like a murder in the library.

Well, there are worse places to die – providing, of course, that one does not bleed on the books.

And you? If you abominate the idea of a representative colour, the comment section is also open to discussions of the best places to die. (1,001 Places to Die Before You See?) We speak of birthplaces, why not deathplaces?

  1. If I were a color (or even a colour), I’d be blue – either that bold, bright blue right in the middle of your first picture, or one of the ones to either side of it, depending on whether I’m feeling up or down, energetic or peaceful, loud or soft or in between.
This combination of sentences made me laugh: “Plain without being drab, warm without being fiery, simple without being boring. The colour of book-bindings, bloodstains and mahogany furniture – which, now I think about it, makes me sound like a murder in the library.” 🙂 I do think that’s a good color for you, though. Mahogany, I mean, not murder in the library.

    1. I do associate you with blue, but that might be partly because in most of the photos I have of you, you’re wearing blue. It’s one of those colours that can express lots of different moods – very adaptable.

  2. I’d pondered this on the night I’d wondered aloud to Husband that, if I were an M&M, what colour would I be? The instant assumption was yellow, but my rational mind counted this false—the answer’s rationale being simply that yellow is my favourite colour, because it’s ‘Happy’. But, to be realistic, I’m not a happy sort. I’m sour and acerbic, at least internally. (Which is perhaps why I like to look at yellow things. One needs balance, and all.) What colour is acerbity? I eventually concluded I must be white. (I’m certain I’ve seen a white M&M before. Just not for a while. Perhaps it was a limited-time promo?) Which is to say, no colour at all. It’s an uncertain blank; the anticipation of colour, but indecisiveness as to what it should be. I would like it to be yellow. But not all birds were made to sing, and alas, not all M&Ms to be Happy.

    1. Perhaps you are not an M&M at all, but one of those lollies that has a sour, tangy centre. (You might even be a yellow one.)
But I am a firm believer in the possibility of changing the tune in the pianola of the soul (just to change metaphors midstream).
Why not aspire to be a yellow M&M? One of the nut ones, obviously 🙂
