  1. Not sure if these count as proverbs, exactly.

“Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none” – All’s Well that Ends Well

“No joy will lay siege to that dark citadel,
so cast off the armor that holds you in hell.”
    -Terpichore from Egotist’s Club (https://egotistsclub.wordpress.com/2013/08/27/no-safe-investment/)

And this: “The love of Arda was set in your hearts by Ilúvatar, and he does not plant to no purpose.” -J. R. R. Tolkien, Silmarillion, the Akallabeth.

Not to mention a lot of the proverbs from, you know, Proverbs. 😉

I would also be remiss if I omitted my mother’s “life is hard, and then you die.” Spoken always with a smile, to remind my brother and I that our sniveling over not getting ice cream is not the end of the world.

    1. An enjoyable selection – I don’t have a definition, so I won’t apply one. 🙂 As for that last, I have a friend who used the variant “Fair’s where you take your best animals” – different words, but the same purpose.
