Yeah, why not! I’d never heard of the Hemingway app before. Have you ever run Bulwer-Lytton’s famous first line through it, just to see if it explodes? In a spirit of scientific enquiry, of course….
I tried it, and it said there was not enough text. (It requires more than 40 characters.) So I wrote the same sentence again. It happily reported the work had a readability of Grade 0 (that’s good), with zero sentences being hard to read, having zero phrases with simpler alternatives, zero adverbs, and zero uses of passive voice. Success!
What happens if you put in the whole first line? “It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents—except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness.”
I irregularly run writing pieces through the Hemingway Editor app. Does that count?
