Oddly enough, Archbishop Fisher was the uncle of my spinster headmistress, Miss Fisher, when I was at boarding school in England – a fact of which she was very proud. However, she was a tad disdainful of the fact that he wouldn’t come and stay and preach there, as there was no accommodation for a married couple, and he refused to travel without his wife. I’m not sure what her views on knitting were. She always maintained that she would retire when she could no longer take the stairs up to her rooms three at a time! She was well over six feet tall, so not too much of a stretch for her :-).
Small world!
He seems to have been a fairly busy chap – he crowned the late Queen, as well as officiating at her wedding (but doesn’t appear to have knitted on either occasion).
