Spring! Spring is too wonderful to be encapsulated by just one quote, but here are three who’ve tried:
“Spring was moving in the air above and in the earth below and around him, penetrating even his dark and lowly little house with its spirit of divine discontent and longing.”
Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows
“Spring beckons! All things to the call respond;
the trees are leaving and cashiers abscond.”
Ambrose Bierce
“Every spring is the only spring, a perpetual astonishment.”
Ellis Peters
What’s your favourite Spring quote – and what’s your favourite season? I love them all, but if I ruled the universe, Winter would only last for a month!
A Ruined Reversolet comes to mind, mainly because I read it for LibriVox once.
Not the most romantic view of Spring, but witty nonetheless!
This is the one that comes to mind: ‘For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land…’ Song of Solomon
Love it! What does the turtle sound like?
It’s just occurred to me that the “turtle” might be a turtledove. I will admit to feeling slightly disappointed – I’d imagined a shelled quadruped lifting its head and joining in with the song of the birds flying overhead!
