Opinion: offending people with one’s language rude/mean and foul language sometimes just represents a poor vocabulary/lack of imagination.
Practice: @#$!%$#$%. …what do you want from me? My father’s a naval man. …he’s also a notable exception to the poor vocabulary/lack of imagination rule. When that man swears, it sounds like poetry.
Perhaps your father could consider competing in a flyting competition? He sounds like he’d be a natural 🙂
I do quite like the idea of restricting such language to use as a stylized art form rather than the widespread blathering it gets these days.
I fear he’d freeze up. He’s really a very sweet, shy man. The poetical obscenity only crops up when he’s genuinely angry/frustrated. 😉
Mm. Could be tricky to make sure he’s genuinely angry/frustrated on schedule!
Lol! I can think of a few ways of doing that, but I think they might violate the Geneva Conventions… like making him listen to hours of political talk-radio.

Seriously, though. I don’t like swearing, and I do it anyway. It’s kind of sad.
In writing, I use it in moderation. Too much of it loses impact.
As for swear-swearing, I like the “yes-means-yes, no-means-no” school of thought. But again, writing is a different matter. Characters gonna be characters. 😉
Characters gonna be characters! Indeed. And I entirely agree about the loss of impact due to overuse.
